Sheriff Charles Reader reports that on Saturday at 7:54 p.m. Deputies were dispatched to Adena/Pike Medical Center reference to a complaint of a male that claimed to have been in a n ATV accident that could not provide adequate information. Deputies responded and through the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the male who was identified as Ken Herbison of Boxborough, Mass. appeared to have suffered numerous stab wounds. He was subsequently transported by squad to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for his injuries.

Deputies also located and took into custody, Keven Blakemore formerly of 2779 Pike Lake Road who had been residing in Mass. It was alleged that Blakemore caused the stab wounds to his adopted brother, Ken. After Deputies arrested and placed Blakemore into the rear of their patrol unit, it is believed that he somehow took his cuffs from his back under his legs and managed to get his hands in the front of him where he opened the window to the cru9iser cage and crawled through to the driver compartment in his actions, he accidently activated the air horn of the patrol unit which alarmed the deputies. Blakemore then put the patrol unit into reverse and attempted to leave the area. Deputies drawl their serves weapons demanding that he stop. The deputies then requested assistance and was met at the hospital by Waverly Police, Piketon Police and Sheriff Charles Reader.

Blakemore stopped the patrol unit approximately 20 yards from where he unlawfully gained control of it and was taken back into custody without any further incident. He was then transported to the Scioto County Jail where he was charged for Escape and Theft of a Motor Vehicle through Pike County.

During the course of the investigation Deputies communicating with he Boxborough Police Department, it was discovered that Blakemore may have stabbed Herbison at the residence they shared in Boxborough, Mass. According to the Detective a search warrant was being prepared for their home.

While still at Adena Pike Hospital, SHeirff Reader was informed of a third party that had arrived at the hospital with Herbison and Blakemore. Zach Bruce of 11148 SR 1124 came forward and spoke with Deputies. He also was taken into custody and questioned where he where advised that a female may be at the residence on 124 being held against her will.

Deputies responded and made contact with a female that had been transported from Massachusetts to Pike County, Ohio by Blakemore and Herbison. The female was interviewed by Deputies and Sheriff Reader. Due to the information received, she was provided something to eat, transported and medically check at Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe and aslo was provided mental health. At this time, the females name will not be released until the investigation in Massachusetts is complete.

The vehicle that Blakemore, Herbison, and Bruce arrived to the hospital in was secured by Deputies and local area police officers and was transported by wrecker to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office impound and secured inside until investigators can prepare, obtain, and execute a search warrant.

As of Monday, August 24th , Investigators from Boxborough Police Departement advised that Kevin Blakemore now has warrants issued for his arrest for attempted Murder, Kidnapping w/ Sexual Assault, Aggravated Rape, Assault w/ Dangerous Weapon, and Kidnapping w/ Serious Injury in the State of Massachusetts.

Pike County Investigators will continue the investigation and work closely with the Boxborough Police Department to collect information, gather evidence, and be available to testify in court when needed for trial.

Once again, Sheriff Reader would like to say that the staff of Adena Pike Medical Center, the Waverly Police Department, Piketon Police Department, Squad members and his staff for working together to apprehend someone that has be alleged of committing some of the most violent criminal offenses that a person can commit against another human being.
