Deputies Respond to Call of Skid Steer Being Stolen

Sheriff Charles Reader reports that on Friday August 29th at around 11:16 p.m. his office received a complaint of someone possibly stealing a Caterpillar Skid Steer from the 2500 Block of Jasper Road. One of the Complainants followed the suspects and continued to give the location of the vehicle to Pike County Dispatchers until deputies could arrive. Sheriff Deputies responded from several areas of the county and conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle at the Corner Market Located at SR 124 and Morgans Fork Road. Deputies took Daniel Crabtree of Lucasville, Ohio and Kevin Wilburn of Piketon Ohio into Custody. Upon further investigation, Deputies discovered that the U-Haul trailer that was used to load the stolen skid steer was stolen from the 300 block of W. Emmitt Avenue in Waverly, Ohio earlier and the Skid Steer belonged to Foil Construction. Both Crabtree and Wilburn were charged with two counts of felony theft. Wilburn had an active warrant from Pike County for Probation Violation for Failure to Appear on a Possession of Drug Abuse Instruments charge. Sheriff Reader would like thank the citizens that witnessed the crime take place and commends their efforts which led to the apprehension of the suspects without incident. Sheriff Reader would like to urge the public to get involved and report any suspicious activity to the Sheriff’s Office and reminds the community that every tip will be checked out in a timely manner.
