Search warrant executed, two charged for selling cocaine.

Pike County Sheriff Richard N. Henderson reports that on Friday, Dec. 17th 2010 at 5:06 a.m. our Special Reponse Team executed a search warrant at 3268 Lapperell Rd., in Mifflin Township at the west end of Pike County.  The investigation revealed that drugs were being sold at this location.  James E. Bowling age 29 and James D. Bowling age 60 were both arrested and charged with Felony Trafficking in Cocaine.  Both individuals were transported to the Scioto County Jail and are being held on ten thousand dollar bond.  As a result of the warrant a large amount of narcotics, cash and firearms were seized.  This case will be presented to an upcoming term of a Pike County Grand Jury, additional charges are pending.

Halloween bash canceled, rescheduled for Thursday 10-28-2010

Due to inclement weather the Halloween bash, originally scheduled for tonight 10-26-2010 has been canceled.  The bash has been rescheduled for Thursday 10-28-2010 at 6:00 p.m.

Halloween safety tips

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office would like to issue the following tips for the upcoming trick or treat night.  “Halloween can be great fun for our kids, but unfortunately there are people out there who harm them.  Being prepared is the first step in assuring all goes well.  Make plans for the night and talk to your kids about how to stay safe.  You can make a difference,” stated Sheriff Richard Henderson.

Parents should follow these simple rules:

Do not let your children trick or treat alone.  Only trick or treat at houses taht you know the residents.  Wear a costume that can be seen and that does not block your vision.  Never let children enter homes.  Visit www.pikecosheriff.com or www.buckeyesheriffs.org to search for sex offenders in your area.  Register for automatic alerts and find safety tips for parents and children.

We all can make a difference in keeping Halloween a safe and fun time for our children.

2010 Halloween dates and times

This year the Pike County Sheriff will be hosting the Halloween Bash on October 26, 2010 at the Pike County Fairgrounds from 6p.m. to 9 p.m.  Trick or treat in the City of Waverly will be on Oct 30th, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.

Deputies locate, seize $22 million in Marijuana.

Sheriff Richard Henderson reports that on Friday, August 20, 2010, while conducting an eradication operation, a large amount of marijuana was found int he western part of Pike County.  Sheriff Henderson said 22,000 marijuana plants were found in the areas of Grassy Fork Road and Green Ridge Road.  The approximate street value of this was $22 million dollars.

Sheriff Henderson praised the work of the many agencies that helped in this operation.  “Without their help, we could nto have been as successful as we were”, said Henderson.  Those agencies were as follows:  Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Special Response Teams from the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility and the Chillicothe Correctional Institute, Benton Township Fire and Squad personnel, Red Cross, Life Ambulance and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office and BCI&I are working closely in the investigation of their findings in this operation.

Attempted breaking and entering thwarted.

Harry H. Howard  Pike County Sheriff Richard Henderson reports on the night of July 2nd, 2010 at 12:46 a.m., his office apprehended a male subject, identified as Harry H. Howard of Otway, Ohio, who was seen in the area of Ricer Kubota Sales on US 23 and Wakefield Mound Road.  Deputy Savage observed a suspicious vehicle; being a white in color Ford Windstar van in that area at around 12:30 a.m.  Deputies then performed a uniformed traffic stop about the vehicle on US 23 North at Seif Road and identified Harry Howard operating the vehicle.  Deputies soon discovered that Harry was operating the vehicle with a suspended license and ficticious tags.  After Harry was taken into custody, Deputies conducted an inventory search of the contents to the vehicle.  They observed a pair of 2-way radios, flashlights, black gloves, dark colored clothing, bolt cutters, and a set of steel folding vehicle ramps, which were located in the rear cargo area of the van.  Deputies stated that the rear seats had been removed from the van in perhaps of hauling something large inside.  After concluding their investigation, Deputies received information that Harry was planning to steal equipment from Ricer Kubota sales.

Harry was charged with Driving Under Suspension M-1, Attempted Breaking & Entering F-5, Attempted Theft F-4, and Posession of Criminal Tools F-5.  Harry was taken to the Scioto County Jail for incarceration.

Search warrant executed, stolen property and drugs found.

Pike County Sheriff Richard N. Henderson reports that this morning at 12:09 AM members of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team executed a search warrant at 6822 S.R. 220 Waverly, Ohio. The search warrant is a result of investigation into the trafficking in prescription narcotics at the residence.
Sheriff Henderson further reports that as a result of the search warrant the Sheriff’s Office recovered stolen property, cash money and oxycontin pills. Arrested was Thomas E. Reed Jr., age 42, a resident of the home. Sheriff Henderson advised that Reed is charged with Trafficking in Drugs (felony of the third degree), Tampering with Evidence (felony of the third degree) and Possession of Drugs (felony of the fifth degree). Reed is currently being housed in the Scioto County Jail under a seventy thousand dollar bond. This case remains under investigation and will be presented to the next term of the Pike County Grand Jury.
